Tokyo Iced Tea

A neon-green Long Island cousin with melon sweetness and a fizzy finish.

Tokyo Iced Tea cocktail

Ingredients

  • 15 ml (½ oz) vodka
  • 15 ml (½ oz) London dry gin
  • 15 ml (½ oz) white rum
  • 15 ml (½ oz) blanco tequila
  • 15 ml (½ oz) orange liqueur
  • 15 ml (½ oz) melon liqueur
  • 25 ml (⅚ oz) fresh lime juice
  • 45 ml (1½ oz) chilled lemon-lime soda
  • Garnish: lime wheel

Preparation

Load the shaker with the six spirits and liqueurs, add fresh lime and ice, then shake just long enough to chill the deliberately unruly mixture. Strain over fresh ice in a tall glass, lift with lemon-lime soda, and give it one short integrating stir.

History

The Tokyo Iced Tea is a late-20th-century variant of the Long Island Iced Tea, replacing the cola-brown appearance with vivid green melon liqueur and lemon-lime soda. The Japanese city name is a stylistic flourish rather than evidence of Japanese invention. A specific bartender, city and year are not reliably documented, and online accounts frequently recycle unverified origin claims. Our six-part spirit-and-liqueur formula is a defined Mixology house interpretation of a variable bar-family drink.

Mixology View

Its reputation is stronger than its provenance. We can make the drink bright and coherent without inventing a Tokyo backstory.
