Cocktail recipe
Slow Comfortable Screw Against the Wall
A gloriously overnamed disco highball: orange, stone fruit and an herbal Galliano finish.

Ingredients
- 45 ml (1½ oz) vodka
- 15 ml (½ oz) sloe gin
- 15 ml (½ oz) Southern Comfort-style whisky liqueur
- 90 ml (3 oz) fresh orange juice
- 15 ml (½ oz) Galliano-style vanilla-anise liqueur
- Garnish: 1 thin orange wheel
Preparation
Stir vodka, Southern Comfort-style liqueur and orange juice briefly with ice; strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh cubes. Drizzle sloe gin around the surface so a ruby streak runs down through the orange. Carefully float the Galliano-style liqueur from a spoon; finish with the orange wheel. Let the layers slowly mingle as the drink is sipped.
Glassware
Tall Collins glass, cubed ice
History
This cocktail belongs to a family of jokingly cumulative bar calls associated with late-20th-century American drinking culture. *Slow* points to sloe gin; *Comfortable* to Southern Comfort; *Screw* to the vodka-and-orange Screwdriver; *Against the Wall* to the Galliano finish borrowed from the Harvey Wallbanger. The formula appears in many later guides, but no reliably documented individual inventor or exact creation year is established. Variants add words such as *Cold*, *Hard* and *With a Kiss*, changing the recipe accordingly. This version does **not** include the overproof rum associated with the separate *Cold Hard Wall* variant.
Mixology View
We embrace the joke but refuse a sloppy drink. Fresh orange and carefully staged liqueurs give it a better arc than simply dumping everything into a glass.
