Cocktail recipe
Nuclear Daiquiri
High-ester rum and green Chartreuse turn the Daiquiri electric.

Ingredients
- 30 ml (1 oz) Jamaican overproof white rum
- 22.5 ml (¾ oz) green Chartreuse
- 30 ml (1 oz) fresh lime juice
- 7.5 ml (¼ oz) falernum liqueur
- Garnish: optional grapefruit twist
Preparation
Use a small chilled glass: this is a concentrated drink. Shake high-ester overproof rum, green Chartreuse, lime and a measured touch of falernum liqueur hard over ice. Fine-strain promptly, then express grapefruit zest if desired. Keep the garnish restrained so the rum and Chartreuse remain the headline.

History
Gregor de Gruyther is credited with creating the Nuclear Daiquiri at London’s LAB bar in the mid-2000s, usually dated 2005. It is a deliberately intense contemporary drink rather than a traditional Daiquiri made merely with stronger rum: green Chartreuse adds herbal force and falernum brings spice. Published versions differ in the lime measure and whether falernum is alcoholic liqueur or syrup. Our house specification explicitly uses falernum liqueur; a syrup substitution changes both sweetness and alcohol content.
Mixology View
This drink should be vivid, not punishing. The rum’s funk, Chartreuse and lime must remain distinguishable.
