Milano Torino (Mi-To)
A two-city Italian handshake between ruby-red bitterness and sweet, aromatic wine.

Ingredients
- 45 ml (1½ oz) Campari
- 45 ml (1½ oz) sweet vermouth di Torino
- Garnish: 1 orange twist
Preparation
Set a large clear cube in a chilled rocks glass. Add Campari and vermouth, then turn the mixture gently until the bitter and wine aromatics meet. Express a wide orange peel across the surface and tuck it beside the ice.

History
Milano–Torino takes its name from Campari’s Milanese identity and sweet vermouth’s association with Turin. It is commonly described as a forerunner to the soda-topped Americano and the gin-containing Negroni. Some accounts connect the combination to Gaspare Campari in the 1860s, but the first specific preparation, name and bartender are not established by a contemporaneous recipe. Its two-ingredient structure is historically meaningful even without a defensible exact birthday.
Mixology View
Two ingredients, no camouflage: quality vermouth is as important as the red bitter aperitivo. Soda turns it into a different drink.
